Day 29: 90 Minutes That Will Change Your Life

As Meat-Free May draws to a close and we reflect on a month of new recipes and new habits, it’s a good time to remember why we’re doing it, so we can decide what impact this will have on our lives going forward.

We didn’t give up meat because we don’t like the taste of it, or because we thought it might have a huge impact on our physical health. We wanted to see if we could happily maintain a meat-free diet with the hope of decreasing our impact on the environment. Animal agriculture as an industry is responsible for a vast amount of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions, it uses huge amounts of water, creates large amounts of waste and requires so much land that growing demand for meat is the leading cause of rainforest destruction in South America!

The eye-opener for us was watching the documentary “Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret”. Never before has a film made such an impact on us, we wanted to change our whole lifestyle (for the better). If you have Netflix, I urge you to watch it TODAY. It will be 90 minutes that will change your life forever.

Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret

Now that we’re on our final 3 days of officially being meat-free, my husband and I have been talking about what our first dinner in June might be, and to our surprise there isn’t really anything we’ve been craving! We won’t be 100% vegetarian from 1st June, but we have made the decision to stick to a predominantly plant-based diet with just 2 or 3 high-welfare, locally sourced meat dishes per week.

Have you ever had a film or documentary change your life? Have you seen Cowspiracy? What do you think of it all? Let us know in the comments!
