I don’t know about you, but some of my fondest memories as a child were playing with things that weren’t actually toys! My dad pretended to use an ironing board as a surf board (and broke it), we played with the casing of a broken old TV and pretended to be hosts of various shows… Some of our favourite things were repurposed household items, and the same goes for our tots too.
There is no real effort in today’s activity, it is literally a case of exploring your house looking for baby-proof items for them to experiment with!
Teddy’s favourite household Bits & Bobs are:
• Spatula
• Plastic bowls, tubs & lids
• Whisk
• Shower body ‘puff’
• Wooden spoon
• Tea towel
• Muffin tin
• Sponges
You can try hiding toys in the bowls or under tea towels, making a mini drum kit out of different tubs or just leaving items in places where your little one can find them (they love feeling like they have found something they shouldn’t have)! There was no greater thrill for Teddy than finding a silicone spatula in his ball pit and delighting in chewing the end with all his gummy might!
Of course it goes without saying that you should never leave your little one unattended, especially with items not designed specifically for babies, but there are sure to be hours of fun to be had enjoying something new.
What are your little one’s favourite things? Do they also enjoy feeling like they have found something they shouldn’t? Let us know in the comments!
