The Old Sail Shed is a perfect base for the family that loves coastal adventures. Both the accommodation and the local area have everything you need for a Great British seaside holiday.
Location
Situated on the North Norfolk coast, right in the centre of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Blakeney is the ideal place to begin your seaside stay. The village is small but perfectly formed, and is positively bustling in the summer months. Amenities here include a local supermarket, a garage, delicatessen, bakery, plus a number of other small shops, pubs, hotels and eateries. Although most people that visit the area do so by car, there is no need to use it once you’re here – as well as being a great place to walk from, the handy Coast Hopper bus service runs regularly in both directions, giving you regular access to Wells-Next-The-Sea, Sheringham and Cromer all year round.
The Old Sail Shed is based in the heart of the village, towards the top of the High Street, down a small alley directly opposite the Harbour Rooms car park. Handy, as this is where your designated parking passes will enable you to park as part of your stay! The accommodation is set back off the road and faces a communal garden area, giving residents and guests total tranquility without the sound of traffic or pub-goers, even on busy weekends.
Decor
Despite the original higgledy-piggledy exterior, the cottage is very well presented inside. Modern touches have been added, and the nautical theme adds character to an otherwise neutral decor.
Practical Amenities
The property has all of the modern conveniences you would expect in a home-from-home. The choice between the roll-top bathroom downstairs and the upstairs shower room will ensure the needs of even the most particular beach babes are met. Meanwhile in the kitchen you can choose between Nespresso coffee (bring your own pods), proper tea from a proper tea pot (bring your own brew), or something stronger from the fridge (a bottle of fizz is always provided on arrival)! You won’t run out of cups or glasses – this place has seemingly hundreds!
At the start of your stay, beds will already be made with clean linen, you will find clean towels on the beds and there will be hand soap at all of the sinks. You’ll also have enough toilet roll in each bathroom to get you started and plenty of bin liners under the sink. A fresh sponge and washing up liquid is also provided. None of this is ground-breaking information, but these little details are important to know if you are planning on having the week’s groceries delivered on arrival (as we do) and you don’t want to over pack the car!
Family Friendly
The ‘one double, one twin’ sleeping arrangements make it clear that this property is absolutely designed with a family in mind. The twin bedroom has shelves of books, puzzles and toys for all ages, and there are plenty of kids DVDs under the TV in the lounge. You can find plastic cups and plates in the kitchen too – great for little hands prone to accidents! My only niggle with this property is that there is no stair gate available. As with many small cottages, the steps are steep and uneven which makes it potentially dangerous if they are not used carefully.
In addition to the property, the village itself is also perfect for visiting families. There is a range of play equipment behind the village hall, complete with sand pit, swings and a slide for little ones, and a zip-line and skate ramp for older kids (parking by the village hall is also free, though its not far to walk from the cottage). You can paddle in the quay, take boat to see the seals or try your hand at crabbing – the choice is all yours! If you fancy a drive, why not take a trip to Pensthorpe Natural Park (23 minute drive), Amazona Zoo (26 minute drive) or even Roarr! Dinosaur Adventure Park (37 minute drive)? All are guaranteed winners with families and offer something unique.
