A Perfect Day at Wroxham Barns

Every little farmer’s dream come true – a great day out for toddlers and kids, close to the Norfolk Broads!

There is a lot to discover at Wroxham Barns, so let’s explore each area one at a time…

All-weather animal interaction at the Junior Farm – what’s not to love?!

Junior Farm

The main draw for us was of course the Junior Farm! It was Teddy’s 2nd birthday on the day we visited, so we made sure to give him the best day ever! If your child still naps, plan to arrive soon after opening so you can get a good few hours of fun in before anyone gets cranky! If you have pre-schoolers, I strongly advise visiting on a Friday in term time between February and October. It is lovely and quiet, but there are enough tots around the same age to play together, if they so wish! Your little explorers won’t need to wait long for their turn in the small animal handling enclosure either (anything to avoid a tantrum)! Of course if you do need to visit during a weekend or half term, that’s OK. Visitor numbers are limited to ensure everyone has an enjoyable experience. Just be sure to purchase a bag of animal feed if you want to guarantee beaming smiles and animal snaps!

Worried about the rain? Don’t be! A number of the enclosures are covered, and with a ride-on tractor barn and indoor soft play area, there is plenty to do when dodging the inevitable showers! A pair of wellies and a waterproof just in case is all you need for a good time!

Come rain or shine, you’ll always have a good time!

Junior Fun Park

Your kids won’t know what to do first! Will they jump on the giant Jumping Pillows, sail on a Pirate Ship or race in a Go Kart?! For the older children, they could try a round of Mini Golf or give each other a soaking in Water Wars. There is so much to keep them entertained, and everything is included with the price of admission to the Junior Farm (although please note the Junior Fun Park is only open on weekends and during school holidays, not on Fridays during term time). The Courtyard Cafe

Everything you would expect & so much more! Of course you can get your usual sandwiches and kids packed lunches, but why settle for sarnies when you could have afternoon tea, top quality grass-fed beef burgers or a Thai red curry?! The menu changes regularly so there’s always have something new to enjoy. Then of course there are the delicious cakes… I think you’ll like it here!

Shops & Boutiques

You don’t need a ticket to visit any of the shops – there is free parking and an open courtyard filled with hidden gems, so even grown-ups visiting the area should stop by for a gander.

Our favourite shop has to be ‘Lady B Loves’ – an independent 1950s vintage repro fashion store. Having successfully opened her first store in Norwich’s Royal Arcade in 2016, ‘Lady B’ has chosen to open her second location at Wroxham Barns, and it is proving hugely popular. You will find them upstairs in The Gallery.

Also not to be missed is Courtyard Confectionery, the home of The Great Fudge Company, which makes delicious fudge on site in many gorgeous flavours (our favourite was chocolate orange). They also stock old favourites and pick & mix sweets, so you can’t go far wrong! Other honourable mentions include The Norfolk Cider Shop and a second hand children’s clothing and toy shop called ‘Kid’s Kiosk’ in aid of NANSA (Norfolk and Norwich SEND Association).

Seasonal Events

Wroxham Barns prides it’s self on being a year-round attraction for families. Don’t worry about those drizzly days – there is plenty to do sheltered from the rain… You could even say they have it covered! There are plenty of reasons to keep coming back throughout the year, including ‘Lambing Live’, ‘Unicorns & Wizards’ and the ‘Carrot Carnival’! To see what’s on during your next visit, you can find the events page here.

Camping

Following a successful launch last summer, Wroxham Barns Family Camping Experience will return in 2022, complete with new enhancements including food delivered to your pitch! You can enjoy VIP access to the Junior Farm & Fun Park, a full schedule of activities run by the Camping Hosts and a generous 10mx10m tent pitch. Let’s not forget the modern washroom and shower facilities! To find out more, see pictures or to book a pitch, visit their website.

Ant and Dec are not afraid of the limelight. Say “Cheese”!

In Summary

Whatever your age or interests, a visit to Wroxham Barns is a ‘must do’ on your next Norfolk holiday. Whether you tie in your visit with an afternoon sailing the Norfolk Broads or let the kids run off some steam after a trip on the Bure Valley Railway, you really should make it part of your next Norfolk itinerary! We give it a 10/10!
