A must-do on any West Coast USA road trip itinerary, Carmel-by-the-Sea is a modern interpretation of an old English seaside village. It’s unique collection of boutique shops, art galleries and beautiful cottage stores it every tourist’s dream. We only got to spend a couple of hours there, but I instantly felt at home, like this is where I am meant to be. If only it wasn’t also one of the most prestigious places to live on the West Coast!
Situated on the Monterey peninsula, this city feels so far removed from the real world, you could literally lose all sense of time here. Trendy bars, live music venues and a long sandy beach make this a very desirable weekend haunt for locals and international visitors alike. Add in it’s proximity to 17-Mile Drive, Monterey and Big Sur, this is the perfect location to spend a few nights and relax on your epic journey between San Francisco and Los Angeles.
